Ballpoint pen is my favorite drawing utensil. I've mentioned it before, but nothing really captures the rawness of a drawing like ballpoint. To this end, I use it constantly when I doodle.

I've been in a bit of a rut, as of late. For some reason, I'm never satisfied with a drawing. No matter what, I just don't really like something after I draw it. And whenever I'm satisfied with something, I usually lose it.

To break my rut of repetitive shapes, I tried tapping into one of my oldest influences: Jhonen Vasquez's art in Invader Zim, or more specifically, GiR. GiR was one of the first things I drew when I was still really REALLY good. But then, I got into the rut of drawing nothing but Invader Zim and in that style (although, it was out of that style, that I started drawing my own comics and showing them off to my friends at school. That's a story for another time if I can ever dig up those drawings.)
That's how I got into my first art rut. And ironically enough, I returned to that to break out of it sort of. Ain't life a bitch?

Bonus ballpoint.
